Story of Aamis
Bhaskar Hazarika’s Aamis is a bold, unconventional, and subversive movie. It explores the thoughts of forbidden love, the association between food and sex, and cannibalism. Aamis also speak about platonic love between two people. It tells the story of a middle-aged married doctor Nirmali and a Ph.D. student Sumon. Sumon is writing his thesis on the meat-eating habits in the North-east. Their desire finds expression in meals of mutton, wild rabbits, bat meat, and even an insect which is infamous for its bad smell. This commonsensical observation takes on dark tones as the bond grows deeper between the unusual pair, separated by age and morality but united by their love for the forbidden.
The experimentation with exotic meats surges into a dark desire when they crave to taste each other’s flesh. As the story is exciting, it got the media as well as audience interest very well. Several interviews were carried out on social media as well in local news channels on Aamis.
